Murlyka is a new small home-based Traditional Siberian
cattery overlooking Sunshine Bay on the West Arm of
Kootenay Lake. Our home is located about 35 minutes
drive from Nelson BC, a funky little town in the West
Kootenay Mountains of BC.
Sunshine Bay is an idyllic spot accessible only by
ferry. It is home to many small farms, acreages and
summer cottages. We have 50 acres of land (mostly forest)
that we retired to in the Summer of 2008. We have built
a new home (suitable for cats and humans) and soon will
be busy developing our gardens and ponds. (See more
about the cattery on my
blog). Our home design allows the cats to be very
much raised underfoot – that is part of our family
and its daily comings and goings. This helps ensure
that our Siberian cats and kittens are happy, well-socialized
and friendly. We have regular visitors from our young
neighbor Mia, her dog and friends. They help ensure
that our cats are used to children and dogs.
In my professional life I am/was a nurse educator /
researcher with a background in midwifery. Its a background
that has proven useful in assisting with kitten deliveries.
In my personal life I am a lover of animals, avid gardener,
bibliophile who loves to cook and create. My husband
is a retired house builder who can create almost anything
I imagine. We are looking forward to building and landscaping
our new outdoor cat run so our cats can better enjoy
the beautiful outdoors.
